We have said it once and we will say it a million more times - cats choose their humans, not the other way around. You think, when you are going to the shelter, looking to adopt a cat, that all the research you have done, all the articles you have read, all the preparations that you have made, will matter, but it won't. At the end of the day, the cat will choose you, as it always happens. That is what we call the cat distribution system.
You may go in looking to adopt a kitten but end up adopting a senior cat instead. You may end up looking to adopt a tiny newborn and end up with a rehomed tabby who has been looking for its furrever home for years. Or… you might hear a random meow coming from underneath your house on a random day, with no warning at all, and when you go looking for the source of that sound, you will find yourself adopting an itty bitty kitten that, on its way to adopt you, has accidentally gotten stuck in your crawlspace.
