'She's been feeding him my cats' food': Irresponsible roommate adopts a kitten, doesn't take it to the vet, leeches off her roommate's cats' supplies, and refuses to do her share of the responsibilities, putting her roommate in an uncomfortable position

A cat. An animal so small and fluffy. An animal that is not too high maintenance. An animal that likes its space and doesn't step out of it too much, that doesn't make too much mess or noise, an animal that… you would think would not cause much drama between roommates. But you would be wrong. So much drama happens when there are pets involved, and somehow, it feels like cats attract some of the strangest situations. In our time writing for ICHC, we have seen some insane things. We have seen roommates demanding guests to pay for their cats. We have heard of people locking their roommate's cats in their rooms. We have even heard of roommates allowing cats to escape and then feeling zero remorse for them.

But today's story… to us, this is one of the worst ones. We have said it once, and we will say it a million times. Only adopt animals when you can afford them. Cats may be relatively low maintenance, but when you have one in your home, you are taking responsibility for it and all of its needs. If you can't, then it simply might not be the right time to adopt yet.
