When people tell us that cats are aloof, that cats are uncaring, that cats don't actually develop feelings of affection for anyone but themselves, we laugh. Truly, we do. Because we know that nothing is further from the truth. Sure, cats are picky about who they choose to be close to, but once you are chosen, you will receive the full force of the affection that cats have to offer.
And it is not just humans who feel the affection of cats. It's other animals too. Every once in a while, a cat will choose a dog as its best bud. Sometimes, cats will choose birds as their hangout buddies. It doesn't matter how different they are, how different their behavioral clues might be, if they are chosen, then it will work out. And those friendships last lifetimes. Cats remember. They know who their chosen creatures are, and even if they are separated for long periods of time, once they reunite with their friends, it is amazing to see.
